Task 3; 5ive Re-edit exercise

Prior to the shoot, we were tasked with re-editing together some of the 5ive music video. Our technician had cut the video up, and given us all the separate clips with which we could re edit the video shot for shot. I worked together with Lewi to produce our own re-edit of the footage.

From this exercise i have learnt that:

While the video may give the appearance of containing hundreds of different shots and set ups; actually there are fewer than you think, they are cut together in a way which makes it seem like more. Making less seem like more takes lots of time and skill with editing.

Editing is very important in terms of creating a band image and specific representation. The editing helps convey the attitudes and character of the band members. The quick editing style and extreme cuts between set ups help create pace for the video, keeping in with the 'exciting' persona of the band.

The breaking of continuity is used constantly, creating a frantic atmosphere for the video. The rules of continuity all get thrown out the window for music video creation.

This task also helped me appreciate the sheer amount of thought and time which is put into the editing process; every cut and shot is a decision; for a purpose.
